The fusing of the disciplines of art, communication, media, music, information technology and music technology has created many new career opportunities including:
- Web Authoring
- Video and Sound Editing
- App Development
- Multimedia Art
- Film and TV Production
- Advertising Design
- Online Course Publishing
- Game Design
- Interactive Media Design
While majoring in a single discipline such as art or communication provides invaluable theory and depth of knowledge, it is difficult to gain the skills and tools from the wide range of disciplines essential to prepare for the career fields mentioned above. This program was designed by faculty from Art, Communication, Information Technology and Music, to provide a broad, interdisciplinary exposure to the multiple academic disciplines impacted by contemporary information technology tools and techniques. The breadth of the Design, Arts and Technology (DAT) major combined with the depth of a complementary or second major prepares students for a challenging and rewarding career in the digital world.
- Completion of the courses listed under degree requirements for the DAT major
- Completion of a complementary major, which must be one of the following: Art, Business, Communication, English or Music Technology.
- A three hour internship, ideally in the complementary major
- The heavy emphasis on the application of Apple based technology in the Arts, Communication and Music disciplines dictates the need for each student to own an Apple Mac computer
Upon completion of the BA in Design, Arts and Technology, graduates will have demonstrated the ability to:
1. Apply a wide variety of contemporary multimedia technologies
2. Create original multimedia work that demonstrates an understanding of aesthetic principles and meets professional standards of craft, content and presentation
3. Collaborate in the production of a capstone multimedia product
4. Integrate the theory and skills of the disciplines of art, communication, music and technology into a cohesive body of knowledge
