Secondary Education Program

The Annsley Frazier Thornton School of Education’s four-year secondary teacher education program provides the critical skills necessary for a teacher in the general education classroom of today and tomorrow.  This program requires the undergraduate student to develop a major concentration in an academic area for teaching as well as the knowledge, skills, and dispositions that will improve the learning capacity of all students. Academic concentration areas include English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Biology, Chemistry, Art, and Music.

Select one of the following five Secondary Concentrations:

  • 12 hours of ENGL 300/400 level electives including one upper level American Literature, one upper level British Literature, a Multicultural American Literature (ENGL 324) and a Women’s Literature course (ENGL 436 or as approved);
  • EDUC 346 (methods);
  • 3 hours selected from COMM 304312ENGL 312/313 or Theatre;
  • 6 credits of a foreign language or satisfactory completion of the Bellarmine College Bachelor of Arts foreign language proficiency requirement.
  • (Note: ENGL 250 is not required of secondary education majors.)
