Requirements for a Bachelor of Arts Major in Biology

CHANGES TO THE BIOLOGY MAJOR REQUIREMENTS WERE APPROVED ON 8/31/2011 AND ARE EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY FOR ALL STUDENTS REGARDLESS OF MATRICULATION YEAR.  THE MAJOR REQUIREMENTS ARE AS FOLLOWS.  TO REVIEW THE PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED REQUIREMENTS, CONTACT THE REGISTRAR TO REQUEST A COPY.
 
Basic Courses: BIOL 130, 140, 219, 220, 231, 240, 408, and an additional 16 hours of courses from BIOL 225, 226, 227, 228, 237301, 313, 314, 317, 323, 335, 405, 410, 413, 415, 419, 420, 430, or 300 or 400 level courses in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (BMB.) or Environmental Studies (ENVS).
Required Related Courses: CHEM 103, 104, 205; MATH 205.  Bachelor of Arts Biology majors must also complete six credits of a foreign language or satisfy the Bellarmine College Bachelor of Arts foreign language proficiency requirement.
 
Substitution for any of these courses requires the written approval of the department chairperson. For the maximum of 51 hours permitted in the Department, up to ten additional hours may be selected from Biology electives. Biology courses taken in excess of 51 hours will not count toward the minimum 126 hours needed to graduate.
