Requirements for a Major in Economics

Required core courses: ECON 110, 111231, 232, 314, 410, 441, 499, and six hours selected from other 300- or 400-level courses in Economics.
Required related courses: MATH 205 or 315 and 125 or 117.
Major GPA requirement: Students must achieve a minimum 2.00 GPA for all Rubel School courses (accounting, business, economics, and finance) taken in the Rubel School (not counting transfer courses) to graduate with an Economics major.

For the maximum of 36 hours permitted in the Department, nine additional hours may be selected from other courses in Economics. Any student who is considering entering a graduate program in economics should notify his/her academic advisor as soon as possible. Successful entrance and completion of such a program may require that the undergraduate student complete additional courses in mathematics.

Note for Rubel School Double Majors:
Students may double major in Economics and all other Rubel School majors. Double majors in Economics/Finance will take ECON 308 and ECON 351 for the 6-credits of ECON electives requirement, and must complete an additional (3rd) 300- or 400-level ECON elective (for a total of 9-credits of ECON electives required).

Gen Ed courses may be taken in semesters other than the ones listed above. No more than 36 hours in economics may be used in a student’s 126-hour degree program.

† Since MATH 315 is a 3-credit hour course and MATH 205 is a 4-credit hour course, MATH 315 students will need to complete an additional credit hour to meet the requisite number of hours required for graduation.
