Requirements for a Major in Sociology

Required core courses:  SOC. 101, 201, 205235, 306, 323, 405, 410, and 419.
Required related courses: CJS. 210, MATH 205.  Sociology majors must also complete six credits of a foreign language or satisfy the Bellarmine College Bachelor of Arts foreign language proficiency requirement.

Up to twenty-one additional elective Sociology, Anthropology, or Geography hours may be taken, including SOC. 341, SOC. 423 and SOC. 444/445.

Double Majors:
  • Double majors in Criminal Justice Studies and Sociology take the SOC. 410 and SOC. 419 research methods sequence, but must take six additional hours in the Criminal Justice Studies discipline.
  • Double majors in Criminal Justice Studies and Psychology:
    • may take PSYC 310 and PSYC 311 in place of SOC. 410 and SOC. 419, but must take an additional six hours in the Criminal Justice Studies discipline.
    • may take SOC. 410 in place of PSYC 310, but an additional three hours must be taken in Psychology.
