Course Title

General College Chemistry I

Course Description

Chemistry is defined as the study of matter and the changes, both physical and chemical, that matter may undergo. This course, the first in a two-part sequence, examines fundamental ideas about what matter is and how material properties and reactions follow from the structure of matter at the atomic scale. Emphasis will be placed on the laws of matter, classes of chemical compounds and reactions, the energy of chemical processes, atomic and molecular structure, and chemical bonding. The laboratory component of the course provides a practical introduction to chemical experimentation and standard laboratory practices. Three hours lecture, one hour pre-lab, three hours laboratory section.
