Course Title

Senior Capstone Seminar in Women's and Gender Studies

Course Description

History of women's thought and gender studies with emphasis on post-World War II thought; analysis of recent landmark texts and contemporary theories, with attention to the diversity of women's ethnic, class, sexual, and cultural experience; application of the Gender Studies lens to current debates and controversies. Minors will be asked to help design the seminar in advance. This course will be divided into three parts. First, we will read deeply into the trajectories of feminist and LGBTQIA+ thought thought across the centuries - many ideas are not nearly as new as we might think. Another third of the course will be devoted to student investigations in to very specific issues of gender inequality in the local community or in a national or international instance. We'll spend the rest of our time in a focused study of an area agreed upon by the class members.

Note: This course is often offered via the Contract Course option. When ready to take this course, please contact the Women's and Gender Studies Minor Advisor for registration information.
