Video Game History and Culture

Course Description

This course covers the history and evolution of video game development. This class will provide an overview of the various hardware and software developments in gaming as well as their impact on various cultures around the world. Students will be introduced to the early video game era, and travel through the rapidly changing scope of what video games have become today. The class provides an exploration of ethics and video games, as an interactive aesthetic medium. Students will cover ethical theory and video game theory; and focus on the theoretical intersection between the two. Students will also consider the ethics of video game design and the ethics of video game culture.
