Course Description

This class focuses on British literature and culture during the Victorian era (1832-1901). This period saw the rise of industrialization and imperialism, the advancement of science and religious crisis, class conflict, and social and political reform. It is also a rich epoch for writers including Charles Dickens, the Brontë sisters, George Eliot, Lewis Carroll, Robert Browning, Thomas Hardy, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, and many others.
