Course Description
In this course, students become critical consumers of statistics and their applications. The course emphasizes visual representation and the interpretation of results, drawing many examples from public media. Students are introduced to sampling, experimental design, and the evaluation of data quality. They examine numeric summaries and graphical representation of data, including categorical tables. Students learn about selected topics from basic probability. Students examine assumptions and interpretation of confidence intervals, hypothesis tests, and regression. Students who already have credit for MATH 205 cannot subsequently receive credit for MATH 200.
