Course Title

Introduction to Philosophy: Love of Wisdom

Course Description

This course introduces students to basic problems in the history of philosophy and the methods of philosophical inquiry. By reading some of the greatest thinkers in the history of Western philosophy, students will investigate fundamental questions related to the nature of reality and being, the source of knowledge and truth, freedom and determinism, consciousness and the brain, and what it means to live well. Students will participate in the wonder that animates philosophers and will learn to appreciate that questioning, inquiry, and wonder are not just tools to be employed in the conduct of practical affairs, but are also at the core of what it is to be a human being.
