Education: Middle Grades Major: Social Studies Track with Learning & Behavior Disorders Major

Requirements for Middle Grades Education (Social Studies concentration) and Learning & Behavior Disorders (required double major)

Required Professional Education Courses (minimum grades of B- required):
     EDUC 102, 200, 208, 309, 316, 343, 443, 445.
Required Special Education Emphasis Courses (minimum grades of B- required):
     EDUC 111, 122, 214, 220, 312, 315, 335, 362, 382, 421, 446.
Required Social Studies Area of Concentration Courses:
     HIST 116, 120, 201, 202;
     ECON 201 and ECON 202;
     PS 101;
     SOC 101;
     GEOG 175;
     EDUC 358 (B- req).
Additional Required Major Courses:
     ENGL 101 with a minimum grade of C+;
     ENGL 200;
     MATH 101 & 102 with minimum grades of C+;
     One course from BIOL 113, BIOL 114, BIOL 115, CHEM 109, ENVS 130, or ENVS 250

Additional Major Requirements: students must also complete specified Praxis Exams and transition point requirements as outlined on their curriculum contract kept on file in the School of Education. Students must successfully complete ENGL 101, MATH 101 & 102, EDUC 102, EDUC 220, and EDUC 200 prior to applying for admission to the School of Education (transition point 1), typically during the spring semester of their second year in education coursework.

All first- and second-year Education students will be required to meet with their Student Success Center Education Advisor to develop an individual 4-year plan. Once students are officially admitted into the School of Education at the end of their second year, they will be assigned an Education Faculty Advisor who will remain their advisor until completion of the program. Student-Athletes who are also Education Students will be supported by an advisor in the Student-Athlete Academic Support Center throughout their program.
