Program Description
The minor provides students interested in health care careers (both clinical and non-clinical) enriched skills to pioneer innovative, compassionate, patient-centered care. Coursework explores health care from multiple person- and society-centered perspectives through critical thinking and analysis of literature, writing, philosophy/bioethics, spirituality, history, fine arts, social sciences, cultural studies, and politics/law. Humanistic thinking challenges students to situate health, health care, and the human condition in a broad cultural, social, economic, and moral context. This unique perspective empowers graduates to exceed expectations for clinical competencies and patient satisfaction, effectively negotiate multidisciplinary challenges using comprehensive problem-solving skills, and bring compassion, empathy, and individualized care to patients, improving quality, cost, and access to health care.
