Learning Outcomes

In addition to honing students' research, communication, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills, the overarching goals of the AAADS minor are to:

  1. Provide an interdisciplinary examination of the history, literature, politics, culture, and art of African Americans and other people of African descent

  2. Examine the complexity and nuance of Blackness as it intersects with gender, class, sexuality, and nationality, both historically and in contemporary society

  3. Foster a commitment to social justice and equity through scholarly inquiry, advocacy, and community engagement
